Our 8th graders are keeping up with current events and learning more about the world around them. This is a place for them share and discuss a variety of topics related to science.
Directions:
Finding an article:
For each cycle, you will choose one article that is interesting to you. You can find an article in one of three ways:
1. Scroll through each post until you see something that you would like to read about.
2. Choose a category that you enjoy learning about: Earth Science, Life Science, or Physical Science. Pick a post in that category.
3. Look at the tag cloud. Choose a topic that catches your interest. Click on the tag and all the articles realted to that topic will be listed. Choose one you like best.
Once you have found an article, you can use this graphic organizer to take notes as you read the article.
Writing your summary and reflection:
When writing your summary, digest the article into one or two sentences. If you were to tell someone about the article that you read, what would you say to them?
For your reflection, here are some prompts to help you get started:
1. Why did you pick this article?
2. Did you like the article, why or why not?
3. What is your opinion, do you agree or disagree with the article?
4. What did you learn by reading this article? Any new facts or topics that peaked your interest?
5. Do you have any questions about what you read?
6. Is there something that you would like to have learned more about?
7. What are your general thoughts?
8. Did you make any connections to something you learned previously?
Posting your summary and reflection:
1. Click on “Post a Comment” in the shaded blue bar at the bottom of the post.
2. Type your First Name and Class into the field.
3. Type in your First Class email account.
4. Type in the anti-spam word exactly as you see it.
5. Enter your summary and reflection into the comment box.
6. Submit your comment!
